Press Release: Rep. Cawthorn Tours Western Counties
(WASHINGTON, DC) – NC-11 Congressional Representative Madison Cawthorn spent last week engaging with his constituents in the western reaches of NC-11:
On February 16th, Rep. Cawthorn met with local business leaders in McDowell County where he engaged in a fruitful dialogue, discussing how he could work together with local leaders to address the county’s needs and concerns.
He then toured McDowell Tech Community College's cosmetic, electrical, robotic, and emergency services facilities and engaged with students and staff about issues important to them.
Rep. Cawthorn then conducted a meeting at the McDowell County Sherriff's office, where he spoke with Mitchell County Sheriff Donald Street, McDowell County Sheriff Ricky Buchanan, And Rutherford County Sheriff Chris Francis.
On February 17th, Rep. Cawthorn met with the District Ranger and other leadership in Pisgah National Forest. He discussed their conservation efforts in NC-11 district, and plans to work together in the years to come.
Rep. Cawthorn then toured Southwestern Community College, in Jackson county, where he discussed the impact of federal policy changes on local colleges and schools.
Rep. Cawthorn then toured the Macon Covid Call Center, where he discussed NC-11's Covid response plan, and and how best to bolster efforts by local healthcare workers to combat the pandemic.
Rep. Cawthorn then met with Clay County Sheriff, Bobby Deese, to discuss the impact of federal support on local law enforcement.
Rep. Cawthorn then held a meet & greet with constituents in Clay County, where he dialogued with his supporters on topics ranging from Covid relief, to rural broadband to election integrity.
On February 18th, Rep. Cawthorn started the day with WKRK, and spoke with local broadcasters on a range of topics, including Covid and broadband.
Rep. Cawthorn then met with the Cherokee County School Board of Education, and School Superintendent Dr. Jeana Conley. He discussed the importance of investing in local schools and the emphasis his team is placing on education policy in Washington.
Rep. Cawthorn then Toured a new Health and Science educational building that is under construction in Jackson County. He spoke with workers about issues important to them, and how to best represent their interests.
Rep. Cawthorn then met with Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer and discussed how his office can best liaison with the Sheriff's Department.
On February 19th, Rep. Cawthorn met with the Cherokee Tribal Council, and toured Cherokee Elementary, Middle , and High School. He discussed how to expand broadband access, and federal initiatives in the area.
Rep. Cawthorn is firmly committed to hearing from his constituents throughout his district. Visits, like these, to the western edge of NC-11, allow him to fulfill his campaign promises of working for all members of NC-11, not just those in larger cities.
